I’m Hjálmar Kakali a designer currently based in Reykjavík, Iceland. I grew up on the east side of the island where I spent my time drawing, painting, playing games, exploring nature and creating fantastical worlds. I taught myself how to draw on my first PC and became a very ambitious digital and traditional artist. Moved to England to study art and lived there for six years. After graduation I moved to London where I worked as a freelance designer on a wide variety of jobs, among other things living with a circus and working on the set design. Was even offered my very own caravan to stay in. I relocated to Reykjavík to study MA design at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and discovered my passion for phenomenology and semiotics under the tutelage of Goddur. Immediately after graduation I accepted a job offer at CCP Games as a UI/UX designer working on their flagship title. I started to miss my independence and went back into freelancing in digital product and visual design.
